Billy Z. Graves, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Windsor Specialty Care in Cedar Falls. He was born December 27, 1925 in Tilden, Nebraska, the son of William Arthur and Litta (Padden) Graves. Billy married Mary Hanawalt in 1960 and she preceded him in death in 1968. Billy married Sylvia Hersleff December 26, 1975 in Graettinger, Iowa and she preceded him in death June 12, 2015. He graduated from Oakdale High School, Oakdale, Nebraska in 1943, attended Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and received his BA degree in 1949 from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. Billy was a veteran of the United States Navy during WW II. Before his retirement, he owned Graves/Peterson Advertising in Cedar Falls.
Billy is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Clark) Van Hauen, of Cedar Falls and one son, David (Judy) Hanawalt, of Fargo, North Dakota; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step sons, Kim Hersleff of Houston, Texas, and Perry (Elin) Hersleff of Forest City, Iowa; eight step grandchildren; 16 step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, both wives and one sister, Zelma Zee, one step daughter, Cynthia James, two step sons, Todd and Kirby Hersleff, and one step grand daughter, Darci Hersleff.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to Christian Crusaders and Nazareth Lutheran Church. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .
