Betty Grove

Betty Grove, 88, of New Hartford, Iowa, died Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. She was born November 18, 1923 in Wall Lake, Iowa, the daughter of James and Lucille (Hayes) Rogers. Betty married Warren "Bill" Grove on September 2, 1945 at New Hartford United Methodist Church. She was a 1941 graduate of New Hartford High School and was one of the first women to work for the railroads during WW II, employed by the Illinois Central Railroad. Later, Betty worked for Prudential Insurance, Crane Company, and retired from the Milwaukee Railroad. Survivors include her husband, Bill Grove, of New Hartford; a sister, Edna Mae (Lester) Truex, of Shell Rock, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Alice Grove, of New Hampton, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Dorothy Ballhagen, and her step mother, Elta Rogers. Services will be 11:00 am Monday, October 22, 2012, at New Hartford United Methodist Church, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford.
