Betty Jean Fanning

Betty Jean Fanning, 85, of Cedar Falls, died peacefully and comfortably on Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

She was born August 29, 1938, the daughter of the late John and Minnie (Webrand) Rand, Sr, and grew up in the Cedar Falls area. Betty married her high school sweetheart, Richard Dean Fanning, on March 5, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They were married and nearly inseparable for 66 years before Dean's death on October 21, 2021. Betty spent her time as a homemaker and a proud mother raising her children. She enjoyed conversations with neighbors who stopped by for a visit, and loved music and polka dancing.

Betty is survived by her children, Charlotte (Dan) Carbiener and Darrell (Donna) Fanning, both of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Keri Carbiener (Jason Dunn), Darren Fanning, and Danell Fanning; and great-grandchildren, Zoey and Jayden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 9 siblings.

Betty's services will be private with burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike, IA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family of Betty Jean Fanning.
