Betty Jean (Phelps) (Tibben) Clemmensen, daughter of Russell and Olga (Farstrup) Phelps, was born July 15, 1932, in Exira, Iowa. She currently lived at Mallard Point Retirement Center in Cedar Falls. Betty was baptized and confirmed in the Danish Lutheran Church in Elk Horn. She attended the Exira Community Schools and graduated from high school in 1951. On February 24, 1952, she married Dallas Tibben in rural Adair at the St. John parsonage. They moved to Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where Dallas was stationed with the U.S. Army. After his discharge, they returned to Exira where Dallas farmed. Upon Dallas' death, Betty remained in Exira until she married Lee Clemmensen on January 23, 1988. They lived in Audubon for many years until his death when Betty moved to Cedar Falls to be closer to Steve and Linda.
Betty was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod throughout most of her life. She trusted in her Savior, Jesus, when she lived and when she died. Betty won many ribbons for the beautiful quilts she made. Besides quilting, she also did a variety of other needle crafts. She was also able to give her family many tips on cooking and baking that all found very helpful.
Betty passed away at UnityPoint Health/Allen Memorial Hospital on Friday, November 27, 2020, at the age of 88 years. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dallas Tibben and Lee Clemmensen. She is survived by her children: Steve (Linda) Tibben of Cedar Falls, Joe (Shirley) Tibben of Denver, CO, and Kent (Penny) Tibben of Danville, IL; her stepchildren: Paul (Jan) Clemmensen of Urbandale and Julie (Al) Derby of Greenfield; her grandchildren: Nate (Kristi) Tibben, Ian Tibben, Karen (Kenny) McBroom, Ryan Tibben, Erin (Clark) Strickland, Kaitlyn (Nathan) Glassley, and Aidan (Grace) Tibben; her step grandchildren: Laura (Andrew) Kautman, Stephanie Powell, Andrew (Andrea) Clemmensen and Scott (Vanessa) Clemmensen; her many great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers: Arnold (Ruth) Phelps, Ron (Vicki) Phelps and Russell (Karla) Phelps, Jr.
A private graveside service will be held at the Exira Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church of Waterloo and condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com . Betty's family appreciates all of your expressions of sympathy.
