Betty D Christy

Betty D. Christy, 78, of Waterloo, died Friday, January 29, 2010, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center.  Betty was born March 26, 1931 in LeRoy, Minnesota, the daughter of Bert & Freda (Rigmore) Hanson.  She married Glenn C. Christy April 14, 1951 in Waterloo.  He preceded her in death August 18, 1978.  Betty worked for twenty seven years in the office at Rath Packing Company, until its closing.   She then worked at Hanson Tire Service in Cedar Falls, and the Crossroads Hy-Vee store.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam (Ron) Varney, of Waterloo, Paula (Rich) Schoof, of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Adam (Lindsay) Varney, Andrew Schoof, and Morgan Schoof; three brothers, Kenneth (Ilene) Hanson, of Dorchester, Iowa, Dennis (Kaye) Hanson, of Rochester, Minnesota, and David (Kathi) Hanson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her sister, Carol (Dave) Bauer, of Tampa, Florida; and her sister-in-law, Donna Hanson, of LeRoy, Minnesota.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Foster and Don Hanson, and her stepbrother, Joe Paupach.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Immanuel Presbyterian Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, both in Waterloo.  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home In Cedar Falls, and one hour prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be given to Best Friends Animal Refuge or the church.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .
