Bette L. Nielsen, 65, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, August 16, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. She was born March 6, 1947 in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Louanne (Sneckenberger) Spencer. Bette married Leonard "Butch" Nielsen on January 9, 1971 in Waterloo. She graduated from Waterloo West High School and attended Monticello College. She worked at Principal Financial Group in the metropolitan area for nineteen years. Bette was an active member of the Cedar Falls Recreation Center and was a member and former Deacon at Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church, Cedar Falls. Survivors include her husband, Leonard "Butch" Nielsen; of Cedar Falls, two daughters, Amy (Steve) Petersen of Cedar Falls and Jill (Ron) DeVol of Delano, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Charli Petersen and Natalie DeVol; her mother, Louanne Spencer, of Janesville, Iowa; two brothers, Bill (Jennie) Spencer, of Forest City, Iowa and Earl "Hap" (Cindy) Spencer, of Janesville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bette was preceded in death by her father. Services will be 6:30 pm Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with visitation from 4:00 p.m. until service time.
