Bette Jane Lompe, 99, of Cedar Falls, passed away peacefully at NewAldaya Lifescapes on Thursday, March 7, 2024. She was born September 18, 1924, in Mason City, daughter of Merle and Gladys (Merchant) Baugh. Bette married Alfred Lompe on December 30, 1941, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa, prior to his departure for service in the European Theater during WWII. She attended Augustana Business College in Davenport and worked as an Accountant for the Rock Island Arsenal, then, Davidson's Furniture and, finally, Rosenkrans Electronics, which she and Alfred owned and operated until their retirement in 1979. Bette was an active member of the Phi Tau Omega Sorority and served in a number of leadership roles, locally, in the Kappa Nu Chapter as well as at the National level. She was a faithful member at Nazareth Lutheran Church since 1964 where she was involved in Bible study and served as a Bethel Bible Series teacher numerous times which involved a two-year commitment to 10-12 hours of preparation for each 2-1/2 hour weekly class from each participant. Bette was an avid reader and also ran a ceramic studio where she produced beautiful works of art.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings: Maxine, George and Ronald. She is survived by her son, Alfred "Jim" (Karen) Lompe of Richland, Missouri; four grandchildren: Danielle (Adam) Rogers of South Carolina, Chris Lompe of Missouri, Matthew Lompe of Michigan and David (Sarah) Lompe of South Carolina; as well as extended family and dear friends.
Bette's Visitation will be held from 4-6:00 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home of Cedar Falls. Burial will take place at 10:30 am on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Hour or Christian Crusaders.
