Bernadine C. Woods

Bernadine C. Woods, 89, of Waterloo, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Lakeview Landing in Waterloo. She was born June 14, 1923 in Cedar Falls, the daughter of Paul and Thelma (Lawrence) Lilly. Bernadine married Samuel P. Woods on October 23, 1941 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1994. Bernadine was a 1941 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and a 1965 graduate from the Waterloo School of Practical Nursing. She worked as an LPN for several years at Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Bernadine was a den mother with the local Boy Scouts of America. According to her wishes, Bernadine donated her body for anatomical study to the Mayo Clinic Dept. of Anatomy in Rochester, Minnesota. Survivors include four daughters, Sandra (Felton) Woods-Bricker of Mohave Valley, Arizona, Sally (Stefan) Alexandres of St. Cloud, Florida, Sonya (Kenny) Shippy of Waterloo and Sarita Woods of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sons, Sam (Ardis) Woods of Owatonna, Minnesota and Steve Woods of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Nick & Jenny Woods, Amy Shippy, Angela (Will) Stone, Avye Alexandres, Alicia & Alexandra Woods; one step granddaughter, Lori Daniels; six great grandchildren, Zach, Hannah, Grant, Madeline, Dorian & Lilly; four step great grandchildren, Jesi, Katie, Sarah & Jade, and two brothers, John (Vera) Lilly of Cedar Falls and Joseph (Minni) Lilly of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a step granddaughter, Tracy Shippy; a step great grandson, Michael; two sisters, Margaret Tharp and Rosemary Matthias, and a brother, Tom Lilly. Services will be 11:00 am Friday, January 11, 2013, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be one hour before service at the funeral home.
