Barbara J. Schaffnit

Barbara J. Schaffnit, 91, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. She was born February 11, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of William H. and Esther (Sorenson) Johnson. Barbara married Paul William Schaffnit on October 7, 1945 in Des Moines. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1993. Barbara was a graduate of Des Moines East High School and was a secretary for several years before staying at home to take care of her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Craig (Bobbi) Schaffnit and Kerry Schaffnit, both of Waterloo; her daughter, Lynne (Jim) Brayton, of Evansdale, Iowa, and two grandchildren, Jamie (Caitlin) Clarke of Denver, Colorado and Alex Brayton of Evansdale.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her son, Thomas Schaffnit, and her sister, Nancy Robinson.
