Barbara (Young) Erickson was born September 13, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Hope (Perkis) Young. She married James Erickson July 19, 1969 in Belmond, Iowa. She received a BA in Public Relations in 1989 and an MA in Communications in 1992, both from the University of Northern Iowa. She had been employed as a teacher assistant in the Cedar Falls school system and was then employed in public relations at U.N.I. Barb died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at her home at the age of 53 years.
Survivors include her husband, Jim of Janesville; her children, Dana Erickson of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Brenda Olsen of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Christopher Bidwell of Washington, D.C., her sister, Sue Mortenson of Naperville, Illinois and her brother, David Young of Phoenix, Arizona. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002 at St. John Lutheran Church with cremation following the funeral. Memorials may be given to the church, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, Cedar Valley Hospice, or Cedar Valley Dialysis.
