Barbara Dostart

Barbara Dostart, 55, of Evansdale, Iowa, died at her home Monday, October 19, 2009. Barb was born December 10, 1953, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford & Edna (Nielsen) Avis. She married Larry Kirby and they later divorced. She married Steven Dostart in 1974 and they later divorced. Barb worked for Gene Sheetz, Inc. in Evansdale and was also employed by Chase Auto Parts in Waterloo.

Survivors include her life partner, Gene Sheetz, of Evansdale; her son, Jason (Shandy Hickman) Dostart, of Evansdale; two daughters, Jennifer Kirby, of Evansdale and Tanya Bobby Jo (Adam Thorn) Dostart, of Waterloo; her stepdaughter, Kim (Chris) Cook, of Waterloo; five grandchildren, six step grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard (Phyllis) Avis, of Evansdale and Lester (JoAnne) Avis, of De Soto, Iowa; two sisters, Mickey (Bob Rasmussen) Avis, of Rowley, Iowa and Maggie Yarborough, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and many step siblings.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Jake Barker.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with burial at Waterloo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for one hour prior to service time Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
