AXEL NORMAN SORENSEN was born May 17, 1917 in Grundy County, Iowa the son of Soren Peter & Anna Dorothea (Nielsen) Sorensen.  He married Myrtle Nielsen June 29, 1944 at Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls.  Myrtle died November 8, 1994. Norman and Myrtle farmed for over 50 years in the Cedar Falls area and they also operated the Janesville Tap for 11 years.  Norman died Monday, February 24, 2003, at Tucson Medical Center Hospice in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 85 years.

Survivors include four sons, Dean (Margaret) Sorensen of Cedar Falls, Dale (Pat) Sorensen of Tucson, Merle (Shelly) Sorensen of Janesville and Marvin Sorensen of Benson, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Matt, Aimee, Nathan, Kirsten, Katie, Shane, Shareen, Dana and Andrew; four great grandchildren, Megan, Kameron, Jonathan and Teddy; and two brothers, Gordon (Eva) Sorensen of Oklahoma City, Okalahoma and Hans Sorensen of Raymond, Iowa. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one grandson, and one brother, Raymond Sorensen.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2003, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Janesville with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls.  Memorials may be given to the church or the Cedar Falls Senior Center.
