Asao "Tosh" Klein, 80, of Cedar Falls, died at home on Sunday, September 20, 2009, of lung cancer. She was born December 15, 1928 in Otsuka, Japan, the daughter of Hideo and Noe Hidaka. Asao married Michael Klein on October 12, 1964 in Fukuoka, Japan. She was an avid golfer, playing in a league at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Asao also enjoyed tennis and was a member of the Black Hawk Tennis Club. She worked as a house cleaner for many years, retiring in 2002.

Survivors include her husband, Michael, a retired postal worker, of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Tomio Hidaka of Otsuka, Japan and Michinori Taniguchi, of Osaka, Japan; a sister, Kurumi Keno, of Korea; two nephews, Tracy Crawford of Kansas City, Missouri and Michitoshi Taniguchi of Osaka; two nieces, Kathy (Mike) Klimek of Kansas City, and Hiromi Taniguchi of Osaka; two grandnieces, Amanda Klimek of Kansas City and Yuri Taniguchi of Osaka, and a grand nephew, Kyouhei Taniguchi, of Osaka. Asao was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Oaza and Ohira Hidaka.

Asao was cremated and buried at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls on September 24, 2009. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with lunch following the service in the Club Room, 2nd Floor, of College Square HyVee.
