Arnold "Arne" Eldon Jensen, 68, of 5117 Thyme Rd. in Cedar Falls, died of lung disease on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at UnityPoint Health Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He was born July 12, 1945 in Waterloo, the son of Maurice and Winifred (Patterson) Jensen. Arne married Sherry Folkes in 1965 and they later divorced. He married Marcia Crisman in 1984 in Cedar Falls. Arne served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Little Rock (CLG-4) during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1967. He worked for Universal Industries and as a finish carpenter for Cardinal Construction, retiring in 2011. Arne and Marcia were partners in many adventures! Always a new one, from Alaska to The Bahama's, going across country exploring and sightseeing to working in Federal Parks and on just ordinary weekend camping trips. Arne was a very neat and meticulous person, he was proud of what he had. One of his most prized possessions was when he bought a brand new, burgundy Dodge Ram - the chamois was always nearby so he could keep it shining. That is just one example that shows Arne's dedication to the things he was most proud of, and there were many! Working as finish carpenter for many years with Cardinal Construction gave Arne many opportunities to be proud of his work; he wasn't modest, he would brag about all the places he had a part in. Daymon - My dad, the Great Storyteller. Thanks to my wife, I was reminded this week of how great a story teller my dad was. While I was providing updates to her about how he was doing she said, "Please tell him how much I enjoy his stories. " As I passed the message along to himit got me thinkinghe really was a fantastic storyteller. I remember on all of our visits how we would sit at the table for hours and dad would tell us all kinds of stories. It didn't matter if it was a new story, a story he had told before, or even many times before. The way he told them, it always seemed like we were hearing it for the first time. I am really going to miss that time with him. His little girl - Candi. She sat with him when he read, sat on the arm rest in his truck to get a good view as they went down the road, and to passersby it looked like she was watching out for traffic for him as her head turned from one side to the other. Arne is survived by his wife, Marcia Jensen, of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Shannon (Mark) Smith and a son, Daymon (Rachael) Jensen; a stepdaughter, Sally (Joe) Craig and a stepson, Jon (Carol) Crisman; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Connie (Bernard) Mommer and Sally (Jerry) Sisson, and his pet West Highland Terrier, Candi. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside military services will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Garden of Memories in Waterloo.
