Arlene Caroline Louise Sergeant

Arlene Caroline Louise Brandhorst Schulz Sergeant, 93, of Hudson, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Care Initiatives, NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born January 16, 1923 in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Emma (Heller) Brandhorst. Arlene married Erhard Schulz on October 5, 1945 in Hudson. He died on March 8, 1963. She married Andrew Sergeant on July 12, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hudson. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2008. Arlene was a 1939 graduate of Hudson High School and worked at Hudson Printing and later Hudson State Bank for 26 years, retiring in 1983.

She is survived by her son, Duane (Joyce) Schulz, of Leawood, Kansas; her two daughters, Shirley (Ron) Pries of Waterloo and Elaine (Coy Hellard) Peterson of Taylorsville, Kentucky; three step children, Nancy (Larry) Lunde, Andrew Sergeant, Jr. and Leslie (Linda) Sergeant; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Watson of Reinbeck, Iowa and Audrey (Stewart) Peters of Aplington, Iowa and a sister-in-law, Elaine Brandhorst, of Hudson.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a brother, Gilbert Brandhorst and a brother-in-law, Claire Watson.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson, with burial at Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will be 4—6:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
