ARCHIE DEAN BIRD, was born October 27, 1924 in Van Buren Township, Iowa the son of Grover C. and Emma A. (Rowe) Bird. He married Patricia Brown October 26, 1946 at Sigourney, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 21, 1994. Archie served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was employed as a machinist at Viking Pump Company for many years. Archie died Tuesday, January 15, 2002 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo at the age of 77 years.
Survivors include three sons, Michael D. Bird of Oxnard, California, David E. Bird and Gary L. Bird, both of Waterloo, two daughters, SuEllen Nicol and Linda Stover, both of Cedar Falls, an adopted grandson, Jeremy J. Bird of Cedar Falls, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and three sisters, Ruby Ryder of Sigourney, Lillian Kibbee of Cedar Falls, and Opal McIntyre of Waterloo. Archie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Ward and Forrest Bird, and one sister, Elva Eden.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2002 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home & Cremation service with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Full military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.
