Aneita Zander, 83, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, December 26, 2008 at Western Home Communities Martin Center. She was born September 6, 1925, the daughter of Olaf and Bertha (McMillin) Gjovig at Crosby, North Dakota. Aneita graduated from Crosby High School in 1943 and received her diploma in nursing from Allen Memorial Hospital Lutheran School of Nursing in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1947. She married Henry Zander July 10, 1947 at Jesup, Iowa. Aneita worked for Hawkeye Chapter of American Red Cross for twenty two years, retiring in 1988. She and her husband also were co-owners and operated Zander Feed Company in Waterloo. Aneita was inducted to the Allen Alumni Hall of Fame in 2001 and was a member of Allen Alumni board of directors.

Aneita is survived by her husband, Henry of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Sharon (Gary) Dufel of Hudson and Elaine (Mark) Slade of Janesville; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Patrick) Benoit, Michelle (Christian) Craig and Elizabeth (Mark) Schildroth; one brother, Ervin (Helen) Gjovig of Iowa City and one sister, Lydia (Robert) Emme of Jesup.

She was preceded in death by parents, one sister, Vivian Gliedt; two brothers, Everad and Gordon Gjovig and one nephew, Russell Gjovig.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with inurnment will be at later date in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Monday, December 29, 2008 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Allen College of Nursing or to the Alzheimer's Association.
