Alvin Stickfort, 78, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Dunkerton, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He was born November 10, 1929 at Holland, Iowa, the son of Ben & Alice (Meyer) Stickfort. Alvin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He married Marion J. Lumbus February 11, 1955 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death January 4, 2008. He farmed in his younger years and was employed as a custodian and school bus driver with the Dunkerton School District for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia (Randy) Platte of Waterloo and Patricia (Dennis) Rude of Apalachin, New York; four grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Johnson, Joshua Platte, Ethan and Megan Rude; and two brothers, Harold (Grace) Stickfort of Dunkerton and Delmer (Joyce) Stickfort of Raymond, Iowa

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and wife; one daughter, Barbara; one brother, Roger Stickfort, and one sister, Berneice Zingg.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Dunkerton Gospel Hall with burial in Fairview Cemetery, also in Dunkerton. Military honors will be conducted by Peter Kress American Legion Post 636. Public visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for one hour before services Tuesday at the gospel hall. Memorials may be directed to the family.
