Listen to Obituary

Allan Carroll Jacobson, 89, died Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Ravenwood Specialty Care of Waterloo, from COVID-19.  He was born March 31, 1931, the son of Sigurd and Ella (Miller) Jacobson in Marcus, Iowa.  At an early age, the family moved to Milwaukee (Cudahy), Wisconsin.   He attended public school there until the 8 th grade when the family moved to Greene.  Allan was united in marriage to Ruth Crooks on June 29, 1952, at the United Methodist Church in Greene.  They had met roller skating and were high school sweethearts.

After completing his education at Greene High School, Allan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.  Upon his discharge, he returned to Greene and worked at a variety of jobs including owning and operating a Texaco Service Station, before being employed at White Farm & Equipment of Charles City.  Much of the time, he moonlighted as a carpenter, plumber, electrician, painter and carpet layer.  He worked on many projects rebuilding Charles City after the tornado of 1968.  After White Farm closed, he was employed by McGregor Furniture as a carpet installer and by Green Public Schools as a bus driver for 12 years, retiring in 2010 due to his health.

In February of 2013, Allan and Ruth attended a "Lunch and Learn" meeting of the Village Coop of Cedar Falls.  They decided to buy a condo and sell their home of 55 years in Greene.  Allan and Ruth enjoyed their years at "The Villages" making many new friends and being close to family.

Allan had a great sense of humor and a calmness about him.  He enjoyed being with his family and friends.  He never missed a concert that his son or grandsons were performing in.  As a father, he never complained about having to load and transport his son's drums to one place or another.  He also enjoyed fishing, cooking and baking, travel, playing cards at The Villages and watching television.

He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Ruth; a son, Allan Kent (Julee) Jacobson; two grandsons:  Bradley (Tomoe) Jacobson of San Mateo, California, and Brian Jacobson of Cedar Falls; three brothers-in-law, Ronald (Beverly) Crooks of Cedar Falls, Robert Lee of Rochester, and Harold (Twilla) Meyer of Tiffin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife's parents; his sister, Marian Frascht; his brother, Loren Jacobson; one brother-in-law, Jack Frascht; two sisters-in-law, Joan Meyer and Barbara Lee; a niece; and two nephews.
