Albert Tjebkes, 86, of Waterloo, died Friday, August 27, 2010, at his home. He was born December 6, 1923, near Parkersburg, Iowa, the son of Albert H. and Grace (Buseman) Tjebkes. He worked for John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works and also for Rath Packing for many years. Albert was a charter member of Grace Reformed Church.
Albert is survived by his wife, Virginia Tjebkes, of Waterloo; one son, Steven Tjebkes, of Waterloo; two daughters, Judy (Dennis) Gondek, of Mt. Vernon and Pamela Tjebkes, of Waterloo; four grandchildren Joshua (Vickie) Gondek, Jacob (Julie) Gondek, Monica (Dennis) Jarchow and Holly Dorwin; four great grandchildren, Jack and Jenna Jarchow, Nathan and Nicholas Gondek; one sister, Arelene Pruisner, of Allison; two sister in laws, Helen Tjebkes and Edna Tjebkes, both of Allison, and many nephews and a special niece, Brenda (Harlan) Hempen, and many other nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Henry, Tom, and John Tjebkes, and three sisters, Annie Lindaman, Grace Bohner, and Reka Harberts.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Grace Reformed Church in Waterloo and burial will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Garden in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 5-7 Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls and one hour before services on Wednesday at the church.
