Albert "Al" Obermeier, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Windhaven Assisted Living Center, Western Home Communities. Al was born July 21, 1928 in Jasper, Indiana, the son of John & Ida (Brinkman) Obermeier. He married Sylvia Schue in Evansville, IN on May 30, 1953. Al served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a Design Engineer with John Deere & Company for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia, of Cedar Falls; four daughters, Mary (Fred) Hertzer of Frisco, Texas, Rebecca (Scott) Clark of Wescosville, Pennsylvania, Dori (Joe) O'Donnell of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and Carol (Don) Allen of Hiawatha, Iowa; his son, Mike (Jane) Obermeier of Cedar Falls; 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and two sisters, Rosina Friedman and Alberta Obermeier, both of Indiana.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Allen Miller, two grandchildren; one brother, Jerome Obermeier and one sister, Esther Seng.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2016 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo. Military Honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to service time Friday at the funeral home. Al's engineering skills didn't stop at designing tractors. His workshop was organized beyond belief and he used everything in it. He could build something out of nothing. He loved his family and we all knew it. We loved him dearly and were lucky to call him ours. He is so very missed.
