ALBERT OTTO "AL" LUDERS, 88, a resident of the Cedar Falls Health Care Center of the past two years, formerly of Hudson and 727 Bluff St. in Cedar Falls, died, Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.  Al was born April 15, 1917, in Reinbeck, Iowa, the eldest son of Alvilda and Otto Luders. Al attended school through the eighth grade in Hudson. Shortly before his 23rd birthday, on February 16, 1940, his father died in a tragic accident in Cedar Falls. On March 12, 1945, his mother married Frank Mathes. Al started working for Connell Coal and Black Hawk Soft Water Service in Waterloo on November 1, 1943. It later became Culligan Water Conditioning, and he worked as a route salesman and later manager, retiring in 1982. Al married Johanna "Jo" Abben on June 4, 1944 in Waterloo. They lived in Cedar Falls and raised four children. Al was a US Army veteran, serving stateside during WW II. He was a sixty plus year member of the American Legion in Cedar Falls, member of the Hudson AMVETS, was involved in Boy Scouts and was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hudson. He and Jo enjoyed fishing at Spirit Lake and camping at Clear Lake. Al also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes and the Cubs, and was a lifelong Republican. He loved his family, spending as much time as he was able with children and grandchildren. Survivors include three children, son James (Cathy) of Cedar Rapids, daughter, Dianne Weldon of Ankeny, and son William (Pat) of McGaheysville, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Luders of Hudson; six grandchildren, Jeff (Heather) Luders of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Jennifer (Neal) Edwinson of Ottumwa, Nick (Erin) Luders of Waterloo, Tim Luders and Cody Boyers, both of Waynesboro, Virginia, and Andy Luders of Grottoes, Virginia; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Jo, Bailey and Jordyn Edwinson, Matthew and Donovan Luders, and Jordyn Boyers; a brother, Harold of New Hartford, and other family members and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife Jo in 1988; his son Robert and brother Vergal, both in 2003; his sister, Mary Johnson in 2005, and his parents and step-father. Funeral services were 10:30 am Saturday, December 24, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hudson.  Inurnment will be at a later date at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hudson. A Memorial fund will be established.
