Listen to Obituary

Alan D. Tapper, 94, of Cedar Falls, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025, at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Alan was born at the family farm home North of Williams, Iowa, on July 11, 1931, the son of Jans and Grace (Arnold) Tapper. He married Bessie "Bess" L. Wolf on September 7, 1952, at the Church of Christ in Hampton.

Alan attended Buze Hill Country School and graduated from the Hansell Consolidated High School in 1948. He worked as a farmhand prior to being drafted to the United States Army where he served during the Korean War. After returning, Alan worked as a commercial construction superintendent mainly for Schoof Construction Co. Upon retiring from construction, Alan became a custodian for Anamosa Schools and later, worked as a handyman with M & D Plumbing.

Alan was a man of faith, family and friends. He was a member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Anamosa, was active in Boy Scouts, attended all his children's events and as many of his grandchildren's events as he could. Alan enjoyed visiting with people and easily struck up conversations. He also enjoyed feeding the birds and could spend hours watching construction work being done around the Western Home Community. Above all, he loved his family and will be deeply missed.

Alan is survived by his children, Paula (Greg) Nicoll and Dr. Ronald (Valli) Tapper; five grandchildren, Jesse (Ali) Adams, Philip (Stephanie) Nicoll, Bethany (Caleb) Barnes, Jenevieve Tapper, and Jillian (Mathew) Gaeta; eight great grandchildren, Skyler and Logan Nicoll, Strake and Sunnery Adams, Annie and Lilah Barnes, and Luca and Layla Gaeta; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bessie Tapper; and three siblings, Lyle Tapper, James Tapper and Evelyn McClenathan.

Alan's visitation will be held from 4-6pm, Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls.
