Alan "Al" Lee Duggan, age 61, of Cedar Falls, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2009, at his home. He was born November 30, 1947 in Hayward, California, the son of Jim & Lois (Livingstone) Duggan. They moved to Waterloo when he was an infant. He lived his entire life in the area, graduating from Cedar Falls High School in 1966. Al was employed at John Deere from 1977-2007 as a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker. He was a very skilled tradesman and well respected. He was united in marriage to Yvonne Wheeler October 10, 1992 in Cedar Falls.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; daughter Julie (Matt) Collins; son Cole Duggan; mother Lois McGinn; sisters Patricia (Arnold) Jackson and Terri McGinn; brother Tony (Sandi) McGinn, as well as six nephews, three nieces, three great nephews, and two great nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, James Duggan, and a nephew.

Al was a loving father, husband and friend. He instilled values, integrity and confidence in his children, spending many hours with them sharing his knowledge and humor. Al had many friends in the area, and it seemed like wherever he went he ran into someone he knew. He was very compassionate and did not hesitate to give up his free time to help a friend in need. Al and Yvonne enjoyed their retirement by RV'ing, camping, volunteering, geo-caching, cheering on the UNI Panthers, and spending time with family and friends. Al was a beloved father and husband and will be missed by all who knew him.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the local United Way or Salvation Army.
