Listen to Obituary

Al Eilderts, 62, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Al was born to Juren (Jerry) and Martha Eilderts on November 15, 1953 in Waterloo. He was raised on a farm near Parkersburg and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1971. Following graduation he attended and graduated from Gates Business College and UNI.

Al married Jane Johansen on April 26, 1986, in Cedar Falls. From this union two daughters were born, Leah in 1990 and Hannah in 1992. Al enjoyed and faithfully attended all of his daughters' events and activities. Rain or shine, sunrise or sunset, he was always there to offer encouragement, advice, and the best hugs. He was so proud of all they accomplished. His latest joy was walking both girls down the aisle this past year. He was always proud of "his three girls".

Al could spend hours outside tending to his garden and doing yard work and also enjoyed daily walks with Jane. He loved any sport, but especially loved the UNI Panthers. Al and Jane became dedicated Panther followers and loyal supporters. He knew and shared many sports highlights and statistics – hence Jane's nickname of her personal "sports information director".

Al was baptized and confirmed at Stout Reformed Church and was a long-time active and faithful member of Orchard Hill Church. He was a man of great faith, which impacted the lives of those around him and tremendously helped his family throughout this journey. He was an active member of Master Gardeners, was on the Black Hawk County Fairboard and 4-H & Youth Committee, a member of Institute of Management Accountants, and served on the accounting advisory board at Hawkeye Tech. Currently, Al was employed as the Asst. Treasurer/Controller at Foundation Services Corp.

Al is survived by his wife, Jane, daughters Leah (Denton) Cahill of Burlington and Hannah (Terry) Nielsen of West Des Moines, brother Jerald (Carol) Eilderts, mother-in-law Maxine Johansen, sisters and brothers-in-law Mark (Luann) Johansen and Anne (Bryce) Claypool, numerous nephews and nieces, and three great-nieces. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Martha Eilderts and his Father-in-law, Wendell (Lump) Johansen.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in the Community Center at Orchard Hill Church, with visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
