Abbey Lee Doxey, 36, of Waverly, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at UnityPoint Health/Allen Hospital in Waterloo.  She was born June 24, 1987, in Waterloo, daughter of Robert and Laurene (Smith) Saathoff.  Abbey graduated from Clarksville High School where she played Basketball and Volleyball with the Class of 2005 then from Wartburg College in 2009.  She married Matt Morrill in July 2013 and they later divorced.  Abbey married Wesley Doxey in Nashville, Tennessee on October 22, 2022.  She worked as a Graphic Designer for Woolverton Printing.

Abbey was preceded in death by her grandparents: Peter and Darlene Saathoff, William O. Smith and Ruth M. Smith; and her beloved cat, Milo. She is survived by her husband, Wes; sons, Colt Morrill and Cutter Doxey; step-son, Collin Doxey; parents: Bob and Laurene Saathoff of Waverly; sister, Nicole Saathoff of Clarksville; niece, Peyton; beloved aunts, uncles and cousins; and father-in-law, William Doxey of Alabama.

Abbey's Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am at Nazareth Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 27, 2024, with Visitation from 5-7:00 pm on Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home both of Cedar Falls.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery of New Hartford.  Memorials may be directed to Camp Hertko Hollow in Boone.

From the get-go, Abbey was exceptional, though she would've always wanted to be considered and treated the same as everyone else.  At the age of 2, she became her surgeon's youngest  patient to undergo an appendectomy and at 5 she was diagnosed with diabetes. Ever independent, Abbey immediately learned to check her own blood sugars and administer her own insulin, adamantly refusing to let others shoulder the responsibility.  Despite a 9 year age gap, she followed big sister, Nicole, and her friends always keeping the stories of their adventures in confidence from their parents. One of her most treasured childhood experiences was raising and showing an Angus calf named Joe Black with the help of their neighbors, the Muller family.  She was creative and talented, seeing potential in simple items such as her grandmother's brooches which became building blocks for her handmade paper wedding flowers.  When Abbey and Wes met the connection was immediate.  Abbey was a great cook and the family always looked forward to her homemade potstickers at their gatherings.  She will be deeply missed!
